Posture & alignment

Jan’s intention is to create a personalized yoga practice for each student in a supportive, loving, non-judgemental atmosphere.

Jan works with students to improve posture and stay safe from injury through good alignment. She incorporates the Universal Principles of Alignment which she learned from John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga, as well as other techniques developed through four decades of person practice and thirty-five years of teaching.

Jan has been a student of yoga since 1974 and has been teaching yoga since 1980. She is registered with Yoga Alliance at the highest level (E-RYT 500).

Jan first trained in the Sivananda Yoga lineage (Raja/Hatha Yoga). B.K.S. Iyengar's first female student, Indra Deva, helped Jan develop as a teacher. Over the years she has studied with Erich Schiffmann, author of Moving Into Stillness, and John Friend, founder of Anusara Yoga.

Meditation is an important part of Jan's personal practice. 

For more than a decade she has been a student of Tantric meditation teacher and author Sally Kempton.

Jan also attends lectures by Tantric scholar Douglas Brooks and reads extensively.
